Australian-Lebanese community in Canberra turnout to welcome MP Salim Aoun.

As part of his day long visit to Canberra, Lebanese Member of Parliament Mr. Salim Aoun along with the OTV delegation met with the Australian-Lebanese community in Canberra, Wednesday.
The United Australian Lebanese Movement (UALM) Canberra branch organised a cocktail reception in honour of Mr. Aoun and the OTV delegation. Also, present were members of the UALM from Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
Mr. Aoun was greeted by well over half of the local Lebanese community in Canberra. The community hall was over flowing, with not enough chairs to accommodate those who turned out.
Mr. Aoun affirmed that the Australian-Lebanese community is a successful and proud community. Mr. Aoun also spoke about the current political situation in Lebanon; he stressed the need for the Lebanese to be united and for all political groups to respect the will and aspiration of the Lebanese people. He stated that for Lebanon to prosper power must be shared by all and that not one community can govern Lebanon by itself.
The UALM Canberra Branch President Mr. Nakhle Aoun spoke highly about Mr. Aoun and the Free Patriotic Movement, the political Party Salim Aoun represents. Mr. Aoun also made mention of General Michel Aoun, The leader of the Change and Reform Bloc in the parliament of Lebanon whom he said is a national leader that unites the Lebanese.
Dr. Pierre Raffoul, the FPM Secretary-General also gave a speech highlighting the fact that Lebanon is a message as stated by the late Pope John Paul II. He declared that Lebanon exists as an example of co-existence. He went on to say that the current political crisis will be solved very soon adding that the Opposition in Lebanon wants equal representation for all.
For his part, Mr. Chady el Hashem the OTV representative spoke about Lebanon?s newest TV station, OTV. He stated how and why it will be a success. He encouraged the Australian Lebanese community to support this project through buying shares; he affirmed that those who do by shares stand to gain just like any other investment.
The UALM Canberra Branch cocktail reception was a resounding success and has shown that the UALM has a strong supporter base and is very influential in the affairs that concern the Australian-Lebanese community.
